I want to start off with heartfelt congratulations for all of you who will be graduating this year. You’ve made it. You’ve done it! It really is an amazing accomplishment.
This is a day to celebrate your academic achievements.
It is also a day where you will be photographed and selfied and instagrammed within an inch of your life.
Sure, the focus of your big day is not on fashion, but as we live in the toasty hell that is the south, you won’t wear that black frock for too long. And when it comes off, guess what? THE PICTURES DON’T STOP!

Let’s move on to footwear. Being comfortable on graduation day is a must.
Think about it. You’re walking, standing, walking, sitting, posing, more sitting, more posing, then more sitting, and more walking. That’ll do a number on your feet.
Every graduation I attend, I see girls standing on alarmingly high stilettos. I honestly do not know how they do that. Any time I try to wear ’em, I look like a drunken bear with a broken foot or a baby deer just learning to walk. Either way, not a good look.
Plus, I’m terrified of losing a shoe. I need straps people!
